Q1. At what height should I hang a dining room chandelier?
A. A dining room fixture should be hung at five feet from the floor or 30 inches above the top of the table. However, if the ceiling is very high, such as 11 feet or more, or if the fixture's widest point is at it's base then it should be hung a bit higher.
Q2. How do I calculate the diameter of a fixture to use in a dining room?
A. The diameter of a chandelier should be approximately 20 percent of the largest dimension of the room. For example, if your room is 15 feet (180 inches) x 12 feet (144 inches) your fixture should be approximately 30 inches in diameter (16-17% of 15 feet). Keep in mind however, that your chandelier must not be larger in diameter than the width of your table.
Q3. How should i calculate the height needed for a foyer chandelier?
A. A chandelier's length should be approximately 1/4 to 1/3 of the height of the foyer ceiling. For example, if you have a 22 foot ceiling in your foyer, your chandelier should be between 5.5 to 7 feet long. This is not true if you are going to put a lantern since you can get away with a much smaller lantern than a chandelier in a foyer. Regarding the width of the fixture, keep in mind that the selection will be considerably different if the foyer communicates through openings with other rooms, rather than if the foyer is a completely enclosed area. Having an elevation and putting your fixture in a scale drawing will help you to see if your choice is proportionate to the size of the room.
Q4. How do you clean a crystal chandelier?
A. DO NOT spray anything on the fixture, not even commercial cleaners which advertise that they are for this purpose!!! Any type of liquid cleaner will ruin the metal parts of the fixture. The best way to clean your crystal chandelier is to use a 100 percent cotton cloth and wet it with a mixture (50/50) of non streak Windex and water. Then clean each prism individually. This is tedious but will leave the chandelier's prisms clean without ruining the metal parts which may be bronze, gilt bronze, or brass. All these metals react very badly to liquid cleaners (they turn green!).
Q5. Do you ship worldwide?
A. Yes, and by having your merchandise shipped out of state you will save the Georgia sales tax of 8 percent.
Q6. Is packing and crating included in the price of the fixtures?
A. Yes, we provide state of the art packing and crating for each fixture purchased.
Q7. Is freight included in the price?
A. No, shipping is at customer's expense.
Q8. Do you provide a hanging kit?
A. Yes, with each chandelier we provide a canopy, loop, crossbar, threaded bar, ground wire, and three feet of chain (additional chain can be purchased if necessary).
Q9. Can we purchase a chandelier based on pictures?
A. Yes you can, and we will provide as many detailed shots as possible, as soon as you have come to a final selection of one item. However, no matter how good the pictures, they won't do justice to some of these wonderful chandeliers. The best bet is to come to our showroom and be able to see our fabulous inventory in person. One thing photos cannot show is scale, which is so important.
Q10. Do you sell only antique lighting?
A. No, we also sell fine French and European furniture. We have a fabulous collection of antique clocks and clock sets, statuary, and works of art. We also carry a limited amount of reproduction furniture.
Q11. Are your chandeliers ready to be hung?
A. Yes, each one has been cleaned by experts, all the crystals have been rewired, and the fixtures have also been rewired electrically. All that's necessary is for you to take the fixture home and enjoy it.
Q12. Do you have another location in the United States ?
A. No, our Atlanta location is the only one. We have been serving customers in this shop since 1986, and we have more than 40 years of experience in the field.
